What is Kinesiology?

 

Kinesiology: [Gk, kinesis + logos, science], the scientific study of muscular activity and the anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of the movement of body parts.

 

Kinesiology is also known as Human Kinetics and is the science of human movement. Kinesiologists apply science-based medical principles to the analysis, preservation, and enhancement of human movement in all setting and populations. Kinesiology is a multi-disciplinary science encompassing four primary areas of study:

 

Anatomy

Biomechanics

Physiology

Psychomotor Behaviour

 

Kinesiologists use these sciences to study and evaluate human movement and functional motor performance.
